Water Leak Detection

Pipes beneath concrete slabs corrode or fail, leaking into ground below foundations. Slab leaks are particularly problematic. They’re completely hidden, water saturates foundations causing structural issues, and locating them requires specialised equipment. Signs include warm floor spots, foundation cracks, and excessive water bills despite no visible leaks.

Bathrooms contain multiple leak points including shower bases, shower screens, taps, toilets, concealed pipe connections. Failed waterproofing allows water penetrating walls and floors, causing damage far beyond bathroom boundaries. Leaks often remain hidden until extensive damage becomes obvious through staining, rot, or structural issues.

Hot water systems leak from pipe connections, tank failures, or valve problems. These leaks waste water and energy heating that water. Relief valve leaks sometimes indicate dangerous pressure buildup requiring immediate attention beyond water waste concerns.

Kitchen plumbing includes dishwasher connections, sink traps, water filter systems, and concealed pipe runs. Leaks under sinks remain hidden behind cabinetry until significant damage occurs. Dishwasher connections are particularly prone to failure from vibration and frequent connection/disconnection.

Pipes running through walls leak from corrosion, poor joints, or movement damage. These leaks saturate wall cavities, damaging timber frames, insulation, and causing mold before external evidence appears. Wall cavity leaks require immediate attention preventing structural timber damage and mould colonisation.

Water mains supplying properties from street connections leak from age, ground movement, or tree root damage. Main supply leaks operate under constant pressure, losing thousands of litres daily if there are leaks. They’re often first detected through water bills despite no visible water waste.
